Soldeu-El Tarter has long been a firm favourite amongst British and German tourists drawn by its budget appeal, abundant après-ski and the most extensive ski area in Andorra. Make no mistake that although that was the case decades ago, Soldeu-El Tarter has grown up just like the young people who came to party in the 70’s and 80’s.

Soldeu-El Tarter has steadily developed into a centre for increasingly sophisticated visitors. The area now boasts a number of excellent 4-star hotels and a wellness spa but combines this well with its routes as a youth destination and still provides an excellent selection of lively bars and a vibrant nightlife.

In 2004 Soldeu-El Tarter grew further in stature when it linked with neighbouring Pas de la Casa-Grau Roig to create the Grandvalira ski domain. This is one of the largest ski domains in Europe with an extensive piste network, first class facilities and a ski school rated as one of the world’s best.

There is an excellent beginner’s zone in the Soldeu sector graduating up to some long cruising blues, on to fast reds, up to mild blacks and open freeriding terrain as your skill and technique progress. Soldeu provides an ideal base for those looking to cover the entire Grandvalira domain. It enjoys straightforward links to Grau Roig and onwards to the Pas de la Casa sectors to the east and the Soldeu pistes are interlaced with neighbouring El Tarter and its delightfully sheltered snowbowl, a magnet for the serious rider.

The village of El Tarter itself lies 3km west of Soldeu and provides a sprinkling of bars, shops and accommodation. Less vibrant than its neighbour it does provide that level of tranquility and with easy bus and taxi links to Soldeu, the big night out is within easy reach when needed.
