The French ski resort of Artouste is a small yet beautiful ski station with direct access to 25km of downhill piste. The ski resort is above 1500m ensuring that skiing back to the resort is usually possible and reaching a high of 2100m snow cover is generally reliable. There is a range of slopes to suit all levels offering a mixture of superb panoramas of the Pic du Midi d’Ossau and some great tree lined runs. For family groups, a snow garden is available to entertain the smaller children.

Artouste offers much for the tourist in the summer. The little mountain train that takes you to Artouste Lake at over 2000m elevation is one of the highest railways in Europe. The track is 10km long and its route offers amazing panoramic views over the Ossau Mountains and breath-taking scenery over the Soussouéou valley. On arrival you will find Artouste Lake nestled at the foot of some of the highest peaks in the unforgettable Pyrenees Atlantiques.

For rock climbers the nearby Pic du Midi d’Ossau provides one of the great Pyrenean ascents. At 2884m ‘Jean-Pierre’ (as it is known locally) is not one of the highest peaks in the range but sits in isolated splendour and presents a challenging summit.

Below Artouste there are plentiful trails in the Ossau valley to occupy mountain bikers and walkers and the area is renowned for its natural beauty. For walkers the Tour du Pic du Midi ranks as one of the favourite treks in the area. Paragliding, canyoning, rafting, fishing and horse riding are also popular and ensure that everyone is catered for in this inviting outdoor playground.
